Marduk – Frontschwein – Century Media – Out Now

Marduk – Frontschwein – Century Media – Out Now.

Marduk do not need an introduction. Since their first declaration of war “Panzer Division” in ’99 they have been around spewing out some fine black art. “Frontschwein” (love the title) is a term used for the soldiers in WW1 who were put in front of the line as cannon fodder. With this title alone Marduk set the tone for this record at once!

Marduk is:
Morgan – Guitars
Mortuus – Vocals
Devo – Bass
Widigs – Drums

Frontschwein
marduk_frontschwein_cd_1100x1100Goddamnit, Marduk ain’t always delivering. Some records just did not cut it. But damn, “Frontschwein” ain’t one of those.  The title-track blasts straight from the beginning and starts a full-front attack on my ears. Love the aggression in this song. Does this mean a return to the Panzer Division?  Nope, you can forget that. The rawness is less, but the sinister mood is darker… Much darker. Love how they kept their Schwung in the blastbeating. Marduk is just continuing the “Wormwood” approach. The midtempo tracks are the real gems on this one. It seems that the songwriting skills improve the further the career of Marduk goes. Does this mean Marduk have gone the pussy way?

HELL NO! With them exploring all the death grounds of WW1 lyrically they still have a dark approach! The German title and the cover might be offending some people, but like Morgan explained: “We just show how things where back then.”  Well, listening to “Frontschwein” makes clear that it wasn’t a pretty time!

Conclusion:
Marduk includes another WAR gem into their already impressive catalogue!
Can’t wait to see them live again at www.stonehengefestival.nl this summer!
