NIGHT BY NIGHT – NXN – SUN HILL PRODUCTION/CARGO RECORDS – OUT NOW

Night by Night is a 5-piece band hailing from London. Singer Henry Rundell sung with British band Voodoo Six before starting this melodic Quintet. To my big surprise Ben Christo (guitarist with Sisters of Mercy) is also in the line-up! Started in 2008 the band did many live performances, but the appearance at Download festival in 2013 gained them many new followers. With Def Leppard’s Rick Savage publicly hailing the band and offering to co-write and produce the sophomore album, NxN are thrilled by what the next 12 months could hold. So let’s hear what these ten tracks can offer us!

Night By Night is:

Henry Rundell – lead vocals (ex Voodoo Six)
Tom Daniel – guitars
Ben Christo – guitars, vocals (Sisters Of Mercy)
Jonny Thornton – bass, vocals
Damien Diablo – drums

NXN
nxnHenry’s slighty raw sounding voice is the perfect companion for this rocking opener. The guys must have listened very well to the bands from the eighties because “Holding Onto Holding On” opens in a pure 80’s melodic rock style! The sound is a bit smoother and the chorus is catchy as  hell. There is more emphasis on the guitars in “Can’t Walk Away. You can discover some great riffs and licks here. The track also reminds me of early Dokken. Things slow down with the melodic ballad “Everywhere Tonight”. The bass from Jonny lays down a nice rhythm and Henry sounds very sensitive here. I here some snippets of Mike Tramp (White Lion, Freak of Nature, solo) in some lines! Henry has a very versatile voice and sounds as Jeff Keith (Tesla) in his glory days on “Siren”. I’m very fond of a voice with a spicy raw edge! The guitar is king again on the tracks “A Thousand Lies” and especially “If Only”. On the soft-hard track “The Moment” Henry brings Mike Tramp back to the surface. The long “Never Die Again” is an awesome album closer. It has a very sensitive start. It slowly build up to an explosion! This is a very powerful track which incorporates some elements from modern day bands like Alterbridge, Evanescense, and others

Conclusion:
Night by Night has managed to inject their mainly eighties influenced sound with more modern sounds. The superb vocals and the often crunchy guitars certainly will bring sunshine on any rainy day! I can recommend this album to every fan of melodic rock, AOR and more classic hard rock! I found it to be an album that never bores and instantly transfers me into my happy mood!
