STARBYNARY – DARK PASSENGER – BAKERTEAM RECORDS –  Out Now

ceed2025e9c0441f91f1b74093a63b45When two worlds collide it can produce great moments. For people who know me personally it’s no secret that besides being a metal fan I’m also very fond of the series Dexter. Well, this Italian band has made a concept album based around the series. The band plays progressive power metal with a big emphasis on keys (Luigi Accardo) and guitar frenzy (Leo Giraldi)! Fans of Dexter will love the different lyrical phases of the life of my idol. Mike Lepond from Symphony X handles the bass on this album. I particularly like the long instrumental passage in almost every song. The many guitar-keyboard duels make the sun shine on my face! The album has a smooth break with the piano-driven “Reflections”. “Memories” holds some influences for the more extreme metal genres!

But I must say that this album suffers a bit from the ‘Italian syndrome’. Some tracks show too much repetition (shorter is sometimes better) and the pronunciation of the English language is often strange. But if you  can set this aside (just like I did), you’ll love this bloody musically story and will listen to this album with the lyrics on your lap!

Score: 3,75 out of 5
